Weekly Groups for Spellers

At APT, we offer group options for spellers to engage socially with peers 5 days per week.

  • Monday: Interoception group

    • Our occupational therapy-led group sessions are on the topic of interoception, or the sense of one's internal body signals. This plays a vital role in emotional regulation and self-awareness. Our experienced occupational therapist, Kayla, will guide participants to a deeper connection with their internal sensations. Through structured sessions, participants will explore mindful practices and tailored activities designed to help them to notice their body signals, support them in connecting their learned body signals to emotions, and then to teach them to use their emotions to appropriately regulate.

  • Tuesday: Book club

    • Each week, spellers will read a designated portion of the book club book at home and then come in to discuss what they read as a group. Discussion questions will be posed to the group, but spellers are welcome to bring in their own questions as well if they would like to! This is a great group for advanced spellers, who are looking for a place to broaden their open communication with peers.

  • Wednesday: Tween spelling group

    • This group is geared toward spellers in the 10-13 year old age range. In this group, students engage in a lesson with other peers who spell across a variety of topics. Spellers of all skill levels are able to participate in this group.

  • Thursday: Teen/young adult discussion group

    • Our Thursday groups are discussion-based and available for open spellers who would like to have in-depth conversations with their peers, across a variety of topics across the categories of current events, creative expression, self exploration, and more.

  • Friday: Alternating lesson/activity groups for teens/young adults

    • Our Friday groups alternate formats, every other week. Every two sessions will be related to one another- with session one being a lesson on a topic, and session two being an activity related to the lesson from session one (typically a craft or game). This group is great for spellers of all skill levels and is a great starting place for spellers with less experience.
